There are 28 members of the Wallbank DNA Project as of 8th May 2017. 15 results have been posted at the Wallbank Project Page of FamilytreeDNA .

The Wallbank DNA Project welcomes all participants.

It is unlikely that all UK Wal(l)bank(s) share a common origin in East Lancashire / West Yorkshire in the 13th century as previously thought. UK Wal(l)bank(s) are particularly encouraged to join the project to provide evidence that the regional branches may be different and that the name has a multi-origin.

The 37 marker results of a Lancashire Wallbank show a high probability of a relationship to a Yorkshire Wallbank already tested within a few generations. . Another Yorkshire Wallbank , tested elsewhere, has many coincident markers with the Yorkshire/Lancashire Wallbanks suggesting a common ancester within several hundred years. (Test houses test different markers, with only some of the tested markers the same).

This means that there is increasing probability that there are at least two origins of the Wallbank name. The project page will be updated with the analyse when the 37 marker results for the Lancashire Wallbank are issued.

 

5 November 2007

The results of my DNA test show that I have a high probability of sharing a common ancestor with three members of the Wilbanks line in the USA. The common ancestor probably came from Staffordshire about 1600. However it is unlikely that a Walbank branch in Yorkshire is related to my Staffordshire line. This may indicate that there are at least two origins of the name.

Also the early results show that there are at least two unrelated Wilbank lines in the USA, one most probably of English origin.
